Sun, Sand, and Style: 5 Effortless Beach Outfit Ideas for Summer

Let’s be honest, packing for the beach can be tough. We all want to look our best for those picturesque sunset shots, but we also know that hot fabrics and soggy jeans will ruin our day.

Through trial and error during my many beach adventures, I’ve discovered which outfits are both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

So, if you’re looking to keep cool and chic at the beach, here are five short and sweet outfit ideas for your next summertime escape:

1. The Breathable Linen Shirt + Swimsuit

While choosing cover-ups for the beach, forget about chunky crochet cover-ups and opt for something more breathable. A loose linen shirt is your best bet since it works with your body and lets air flow through it. You can easily slip this one over your swimsuit, roll up the sleeves, and secure it at the hem with some knots.

2. The Modern Rash Guard + Board Shorts

If you really intend to swim, surf or play beach volleyball, leave your fashion swimwear at home. Having personally suffered from sunburns in the past, I can confidently say that a long-sleeved rash guard is one of the best accessories to consider when preparing for your beach trip. Fortunately, modern rash guards are no longer bulky pieces of clothing. On the contrary, contemporary rash guards look great and have UPF 50+. Combine a rash guard with a pair of board shorts and get ready for action.

3. Flowy Cotton Maxi Dress

The flowy cotton or rayon maxi dress is perfect for a “beach to bar” experience. Why is that? Well, unlike tight mini-skirts, maxi dresses do not stick to your legs when you are sitting in the sand. Go for something that you can easily put on. Preferably, choose a slip-on dress with a low back or a halter top design. Such a piece will look absolutely amazing, but it will also protect your skin from harsh sunlight.

4. Loose-Fitting Linen Trousers & A Tank Top

Do yourself a favor and don’t wear jeans at the beach because wet denim weighs down and ruins everything. Get yourself a pair of loose-fitting linen trousers to cover up your legs from the burning hot sand. Throw in a ribbed tank top or a solid-colored bikini top on top. Not only will you look stylish, but you’ll stay dry and comfortable should the tide catch you by surprise.

5. Oversized Graphic Tee & Bikini

For those days where you just want to be cool and laid back, there’s no better option than an oversized graphic tee. Just make sure to get one in a size up so it can function as your mini-dress. Add in your favorite triangle bikini under it and your comfy slide sandals. It’s extremely convenient when it comes to taking it off before jumping into the ocean and grabbing an ice cream from the beachside cafes.

Final Tip: Go natural – always opt for natural fibers such as linen and cotton rather than synthetic materials like polyester.
