How to Build a Luxury Wardrobe on a Budget

Urban living has been an eye-opening experience for me in terms of style. I now understand that luxury is not necessarily synonymous with expensive prices. The key is to be stylish, elegant, and classy, and still do so within reasonable budget limits. I have devised a strategy for maintaining a sophisticated wardrobe without breaking the bank, and it involves nothing more than some thrifty vintage shopping.

The allure of fast fashion is undeniable, but quality is rarely its strong suit. Items made cheaply and meant only for trend purposes will soon disintegrate into oblivion and be left behind. This is why my shopping habits focus on vintage and consignment stores, where craftsmanship reigns supreme. There is just one basic principle in shopping for luxury items: always examine the material label before looking at the price and sizing information. Luxurious materials such as 100% silk, pure cashmere, and authentic leather enhance the overall image and feel far superior to cheap alternatives.

One additional secret I am going to share with you is tailoring. No matter how stunning the outfit may be, nothing will work until it fits you well. A small amount of money – normally about $15 at the tailor in my neighborhood – is all you need to make your vintage discovery into something tailor-made for you.

What should you take away from all this? Do not bother about designer labels anymore – go for designer materials instead! You will manage to create your wardrobe looking expensive, durable and fashionable, and not because you are buying everything off the racks. Remember, fashion is a mindset, not a budget.
